Greenest Region Compact
On November 15th the Lincolnwood Village Board unanimously passed a resolution committing the Village to participate in the Greenest Region Compact of Metropolitan Chicago. By signing the Compact the Village is pledging to make environmental considerations a priority. The Compact asks participating municipalities to demonstrate that environmental practices are fiscally responsible and calls on residents and businesses to join the Village as environmental stewards to preserve the resources, climate, and economic viability of the Chicagoland region for future generations.
Specifically, by signing the Compact the Village is committing to implementing three priority strategies as identified by the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus Environmental Committee:
Promote Resident Water Conservation Practices & Reduce Water Consumption by 15% by the year 2015
Enact Electronic Waste Recyling programs
Reduce Residential Energy Consumption by Encouraging the use of Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) Bulbs
**Stay tuned for more information on this program as the Village plans to distribute free or significantly discounted CFL Bulbs to residents in spring of 2008.
