PERSONNEL
The Police Department has an authorized full-time strength of 33 sworn officers and 11 civilian employees. The sworn complement consists of the Chief, the Deputy Chief, four Lieutenants, three Sergeants, and 24 Police Officers. The full-time civilian staff consists of the Executive Secretary, Information Services Manager, Records Clerk, Community Service Officer, and seven Communications Operators. Part-time employees consist of one Communications Operator, one Social Worker, two Community Service Officers, and two adult School Crossing Guards.
ORGANIZATION
The Police Department is organized into the following components: the Office of the Chief of Police; Patrol; Investigations; and Support Services.
OFFICE OF THE CHIEF OF POLICE
The Office of the Chief of Police includes the Chief of Police, the Deputy Chief of Police, and the Executive Secretary. This Office serves as the administrative component of the Police Department. The Office of the Chief of Police is responsible for the coordination, budget, direction, and planning of all Police Department activities. The Community Service Officers and the adult School Crossing Guards report to the Deputy Chief of Police.
PATROL
There are three Patrol Watches - midnights (1st Watch), days (2nd Watch), and afternoons (3rd Watch). Each watch is staffed by one Lieutenant, one Sergeant and a number of police officers determined by each Watch. The Patrol Watches provide police services to the community, including proactive patrol, response to calls for service, initial investigations, traffic enforcement, crime prevention, and other public safety and service activities.
INVESTIGATIONS
The Investigations Unit is comprised of one Lieutenant and three Investigators. The Unit is responsible for follow-up investigations for all criminal offenses reported to the Police Department. The Investigators also conduct covert operations and provide staffing to various task forces through mutual aid agreements.
SUPPORT SERVICES UNIT
The Support Services Unit consists of the Communications and Information Services Sections, and is led by the Detective Unit Commander. The Communications Section is tasked with fielding all incoming telephone communications, including 9-1-1 and administrative calls. Communications Operators are also responsible for communications with Police Officers in the field, the Fire Department dispatch center, and walk-in customers in the Police lobby. It is a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week operation.
The Information Services Section provides police records information to the general public, as well as criminal and civil justice authorities. The Information Services Section is operational from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
