Fire Hydrant Replacement Program
This year the Village of Lincolnwood began its 5-year Fire Hydrant Replacement Program. Many fire hydrants in the Village are 75 years old and there are no longer parts available to repair them. Therefore, 100 fire hydrants were replaced from April 3 through June 30. Water needs to be shut-off during the replacement process and the Public Works Department will notify residents of shut-offs one day in advance. Water shut-off will take place between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. 2006 Replacement took place along Touhy Avenue, Crawford Avenue from Devon Avenue to Lincoln Avenue, and zones 1 & 2 from the Village Street Sweeping Map (See Attached Map).
Occasionally, open fire hydrants can cause some rust and scale products, which normally adhere to the inside of the water mains, to break away. This sediment disturbance may cause water to appear cloudy or dirty. Water main repair or construction can also cause this temporary inconvenience. If this condition occurs in your system, allow the cold-water tap to run until the water clears. If the condition persists, call the Public Works Department at (847) 675-0888.
