Recycling

The Village is a member of the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC).  Through participation in SWANCC, Village residents have the opportunity to participate in many programs including Document Destruction, Electronics Recycling, and Household Chemical Waste Disposal.  For more information on SWANCC, click here to visit their website.

**Stay tuned for information on an upcoming program to dispose of Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL) in an environmentally-friendly way.  Please be careful with these bulbs as they contain Mercury.

At Home Computer/Electronics Program

SWANCC is offering a more convenient way to recycle old computers and electronics by providing pick-up service from residential homes.  Any resident who lives in a SWANCC-member community can contact SWANCC at athome@swancc.org or 847-724-9205 extension 9 to arrange for a pick-up.  The program pick-up charge is only $25 via credit card to offset program costs, and up to 6 items can be recycled per pick up.  On the scheduled pick-up day, items must be placed on the front porch or steps by 7:30am.

Prescription Durg and Sharps Disposal Program

This past summer the Village participated in SWANCC's prescription drug and sharps disposal pilot program.  The program is intended to ensure the environmentally safe disposal of drugs and needles and to guard against potential theft associated with disposing of old medications.  The Village is working with SWANCC to make this a permnanent program, more details are to follow shortly.
