A Message From Mayor Turry
The Village of Lincolnwood has always been one of the most desirous places to live in the northern suburbs. Located just 15 minutes from downtown Chicago or O'Hare Airport, Lincolnwood is part of the mainstream of suburban Chicago's transportation grid. Our strong financial base is made up of a mix of fine business and quality homes. Our superior school systems, Elementary School District 74 and High School District 219, are continually among the top schools in the state's annual assessments. Our residents are greatly involved in the many issues which face municipalities today. We have enjoyed the synergy created by a knowledgeable community and a hard working Village staff.
Lincolnwood continues to seek ways to improve the quality of life for our community's citizenry and businesses. We have completed several major projects which will define our city streetscapes for the next 50 years. These include the Lincoln Avenue Corridor and the Touhy-Crawford Business District. We are currently doing some major repairs and renovation work of our main arterial thoroughfare, Touhy Ave. When completed in 2007, it will make our Touhy-Crawford Business District much more pedestrian friendly and help business there thrive.
We are fortunate to have three substantial car dealerships in our Village. These all occupy part of our commercial core. Loeber Mercedes-Benz & Loeber Porsche continue their expansion, becoming the luxury car capital of the Northshore, and Grossinger Toyota's new facility at the gateway to the Village on Touhy & Cicero Avenues is achieving unprecedented acclaim. In addition, Grossinger still operates its Grossinger Autoplex dealership on McCormick Blvd. and a newly revitalized Volvo dealership at Lincoln and Crawford.
Dominick's Foods continues to do well in its location at the east end of our Village as does the new Walgreens edifice at Lincoln & Pratt. The traffic impact originally feared by many residents has been properly addressed and traffic calming devices have proven quite useful in maintaining the serenity of the adjacent neighborhoods.
The Parks and Recreation Department has many programs to offer our residents. Our Village aquatic center is in its third year of operation. We are happy to note that we have increased our non-resident membership in order to accommodate 1300 new families. Youth baseball and softball as well as our summer day camp program are filled daily with energetic campers and staff. The Lincolnwood Chamber Orchestra will be performing a number of concerts throughout the year as in the past. We are working on the creation of a 'season' performance schedule for 2007. Soon we will have the details online, as well as the ability to order tickets for all of benefit performances. There are several free performances as well. Our arts exhibits continue to fill the Village Hall gallery with some of the most outstanding art work in the Chicago area. It is a testimony to a Village which places the highest value on the importance of music and art in defining a community.
The use of new technology in Lincolnwood continues to demonstrate that residents are on the cutting edge of these technologies and relish its use in making life better. Residents utilize the Village website and cable access channel to obtain up-to-date information. This year, our Village communications center will completely revise our broadcasting capabilities allowing a much better product for viewing council meetings and other Village meetings as well as School District 74 meetings. Broadcasts can be viewed on public access channel 6. The Village Board meets the first and third Thursdays of the month, except July and August at 7:30 p.m. (click here for the schedule).
