Branch Removal Service (Chipper) Discontinued
As of July 15, 2007 the Public Works Department will no longer accept requests for branch removal services from trees on private property. Instead, residents may dispose of wood debris free of charge through Groot's yard waste service. Groot will accept branches at the curb every Monday from March 15 - November 15 per the following regulations:
· Branches are 4 inches or less in diameter
· Branches are 4 feet or less in length
· Branches are tied together in bundles less than 60 pounds
You can contact Groot at 847-734-6400 for more information concerning their yard waste program. Please note that Public Works will continue to collect branches at the curb following major storm events.
Discontinuing the Village's branch removal program will allow our Public Works Department to focus on properly maintaining the public rights-of-way. In July, the department will begin a 5-year tree trimming cycle to guarantee that all of our parkway trees are adequately inspected and maintained. Further, Public Works will undertake an improved alley maintenance cycle to ensure that alleys are free of potholes and other obstacles. Finally, in order to ensure that the Village's urban forest is properly diversified in accordance with best urban forest management practices, the Village has adopted a proactive Emerald Ash Borer Management Plan that will require the annual removal of 40-50 ash trees over the next five years.
The Village will continue to operate its chipper program as it is currently constituted until July 15. Service will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays. Chipper requests can be made by clicking: Chipper Request or by leaving a message on the department general voicemail box by 8:00 am the day of the request. If a request is made after 8:00 am on the day of the request, then the Chipper will be scheduled for the next available day. The Chipper runs from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Residents shall place all permitted materials on their parkway, which can most commonly be described as "near the curb."
The following items are permitted for the Chipper:
Branches of any length with a diameter of no more than six (6) inches
Bushes
Branches from parkway trees that may have fallen due to severe weather
The following items are not permitted for the Chipper:
Stumps
