Street Sweeping

Street sweeping is necessary not only to keep streets clean, but is required to prevent dirt and debris from entering the Village's Combined Sewer System. The less debris on the street, the better drainage will be during a rain storm. There are two street sweepers in the Department. One runs on a set schedule and another runs to keep up with peak times in the fall and spring. For effective and efficient street cleaning please obey the NO PARKING SIGNS that are posted on your block.

During the 2011-2012 Winter permanent signs were installed on each block within the Village which notifies motorists when street sweeping will occur in their area. One sign was installed on each side of the street per block. The new signs create a permanent schedule for street sweeping. This means that each month residents will have street sweeping performed on the same day of the week. The schedule will be in effect April 1- December 15 of each year. Mark your calendar or place a reminder in your smart phone with your monthly street sweeping date.

Tickets in the amount of $20.00 will be issued for cars obstructing the streets on days scheduled for street cleaning. The fine is increased to $75.00 after 10 days.

If you would like to know when your street is going to be cleaned, please refer to this year's schedule.

Leaves

Each fall large piles of leaves are found up and down the streets in the Village. The Village asks that residents assist Village crews by not raking leaves into the street to reduce the possibility of clogging storm drains. A second street sweeper that does not run on a set schedule goes through the Village to clear leaves from the streets as quickly as possible. Additional leaf collection tips  include:

      1. Wet leaves while they are piled to reduce the likelihood of them blowing away
      2. Keep areas around fire hydrants free of leaf piles
      3. Rake leaves away from parked cars
      4. Rake leaves into piles that can be placed into yard waste bags for pick-up
          by the garbage company

It is also important to remember that the Village has an Ordinance regarding the use of gas powered leaf blowers. The use of gas powered leaf blowers is prohibited from May 15 through September 30 of each year. In addition, the use of leaf blowers is prohibited from October 1 of any given year through May 14 before 7:00 a.m. and after 6:00 p.m. Monday-Friday and before 7:00 a.m. and after 12:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Leaf blowers are not permitted to be used on Sunday at any time.
