Touhy Avenue Street Light Replacement Project

Project Description: The existing street lights will be replaced with new black metal poles and LED fixtures. In addition, the existing black pole street lights near the intersection of Touhy and Crawford Avenues will be retrofitted with LED fixtures. This project will be the fourth year in a five year street light replacement program.
Estimated Construction Cost: $1,145,720
Funding Source: Since 2005, the Village has collected $0.02 per gallon of gasoline sold in the Village of Lincolnwood for the purpose of improving the Village’s transportation systems. These funds are being used for the Touhy Avenue Street Light Replacement Project.
Project Updates: Update (May 12, 2017) – The contractor has completed all of the major work associated with this project and is now completing punch list items such as sidewalk and lawn restoration.
Update (March 21, 2017): The contractor has nearly completed the installation of the new light poles and is expected to begin removing the old poles within the next couple of weeks.
Update (December 30, 2016): The contractor is nearly complete installing conduit along Touhy Avenue between Cicero and Lincoln Avenues. In order to facilitate this work, the contractor has removed certain sections of sidewalk and has temporarily replaced those sections with stone. The disturbed sidewalk will be replaced with concrete later in the project. Over the coming weeks, the contractor will be working to continue installation of light pole foundations. Word during the winter months is often slowed by inclement weather, so the contractor has often had two crews on site to ensure the project is completed on time.
Update (December 5, 2016): The contractor, H&H Electric, has started construction and is planning to begin on the south side of Touhy Avenue working from Cicero to the east. Initial work will include excavation and pouring of the new concrete foundations. A notification letter was hand delivered to residents on Friday, December 2 throughout the project area.
Update (May 18, 2016) – On May 17, the Village Board awarded a contract for the construction of the Touhy Avenue street light improvement project to H&H Electric of Franklin Park, Illinois. The contractor will now work to order the necessary materials for construction of the project.
Update (April 1, 2016) – The Village’s engineering firm, Gewalt Hamilton Associates (GHA), is working to complete the design of the improvements.
