Village of Lincolnwood Sustainability PlanGRC2

The Village of Lincolnwood is proactively striving to become a greener and more sustainable community. In 2021, the Village created an Environmental Ad-Hoc Committee  to act as an advisory body for the Village Board regarding environmental issues and initiatives. In August 2021, the Committee was formalized as the Environmental Commission. The Environmental Commission was tasked with the development of the Village’s first-ever sustainability plan. The goal of the Village’s Sustainability Plan is to provide recommendations to the Village Board to create a greener and more sustainable community.

The Village is a member of the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus (MMC) and they created a framework tool as part of its Greenest Region Compact (GRC) initiative for municipalities to develop their own Sustainability Plan. The Village adopted MMC’s GRC Resolution on April 19, 2016, to support this initiative. The GRC Framework Tool provides a path to assist communities with the development of their own sustainability efforts. The GRC Framework Tool contains ten sections:

  • Climate
  • Economic Development
  • Energy
  • Land
  • Leadership
  • Mobility
  • Municipal Operations
  • Sustainable Communities
  • Waste and Recycling
  • Water

The Environmental Commission has worked with Village staff to create a draft Sustainability Plan for the Village using the GRC Framework Tool. On July 18, 2023, Staff and members of the Environmental Commission presented the final draft of the Village’s Sustainability Plan during the Board of Trustee’s Committee of the Whole meeting. There was consensus among the Board to formally adopt the plan at the August 15, 2023, Village Board Meeting.
