Artist Statement:
Subject matter that provokes curiosity becomes a point of departure.  Weathered signs, abstract shapes made by raindrops, and landscapes that are part of my everyday routine, generate ideas. In addition, the principle notion that process is content guides much of my work. I believe that relevant art is not necessarily about what is painted, but rather how it is painted.

I am an artist and art teacher. I have begun to work on roads and landscapes that are significantly larger than I have made in some time. I want to convey the relationship between mark making and subject matter.  I am a painter who embraces the application of the materials just as much as the chosen subject.

With regard to my own work, I believe that common and unpretentious subject matter is important. Resolution of an image is much more about how it’s interpreted rather than what images are drawn or painted. I enjoy using pictures that, at first glance, appear ordinary. These images are a starting point for using and exploring acrylic paint on canvas, oil paint on wood, and various materials on paper. I want the simple subject matter and the process undertaken, to evoke some emotional reaction from the viewer.  I make art every day, and I am grateful to be able interpret daily events through my drawings, paintings, and even sculptures.
