As of January 1, 2020 Recreational Cannabis Businesses will be legal for the consumption and possession of marijuana in Illinois. The Village Board is currently considering regulations to allow for Recreational Cannabis Businesses within the community. Before the Village Board takes final action on this measure, it is requesting feedback from the community in regards to how the Village should proceed.
The Illinois Municipal League has also developed a factsheet regarding Recreational Cannabis Businesses that is linked here on what the regulations mean for Illinois municipalities. On July 16, 2019 the Village Attorney presented on this topic and gave an overview of the regulations for the State of Illinois. That presentation is attached here. The packet of information related to the August 20, Village Board Meeting where this topic was discussed and presented is available here. The packet includes a map with proposed setbacks that would prohibit a Recreational Cannabis Business to be at least 1,000 feet away from Schools and Day Care Facilities and at least 200 feet away from Parks and Religious Institutions. A summary of the proposed regulations from the Village Board is linked here along with a map of recommended setbacks, which is linked here.
The Village Board and Plan Commission have also discussed this at public meetings. The videos for these meetings are below:
