LINCOLNWOOD, IL – The Village of Lincolnwood is pleased to announce the hiring of its new Parks and Recreation Director, Karen Hawk. The announcement comes after a nationwide search was conducted to fill the position.
Ms. Hawk has worked in various operations of Parks and Recreation, including non-profit, park districts, and municipal recreation. She has spent the past 18 years with the City of Evanston, working her way up through the ranks, starting as a Program Manager, then as a Recreation Manager, finally serving as the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation for the past five years. Prior to her work with the City of Evanston, Ms. Hawk worked at the Winnetka Community House and the Peoria Park District.
While working in Evanston, Ms. Hawk was involved in a number of Capital improvement projects, including outdoor turf field installations, renovation of the Fleetwood-Jourdain Center, and the new 130,000 square foot Robert Crown Center.
Ms. Hawk holds a Masters in Recreation Administration with a concentration in Administration of Leisure Services from Aurora University and a Bachelors in Leisure Studies from Eastern Illinois University. Karen is a 2019 graduate of the National Recreation and Parks Association Director’s School. She is also a member of the National
Recreation and Parks Association, Illinois Parks and Recreation Association, and the Chicago Chapter of Women in Leisure Services.

Mayor Jesal Patel stated, ‘We are thrilled to welcome Karen to Lincolnwood. Karen’s proven ability in Evanston over the last 18 years will certainly help to lead us forward with the planned enhancements to our Parks facilities and programs.”
When asked about Ms. Hawk’s appointment to the Parks and Recreation Director position, Village Manager Anne Marie Gaura stated, “We are so excited to have Karen join our team in Lincolnwood. Her breadth of experience and knowledge in the field of Parks and Recreation will be an unparalleled asset as our Department continues to perform at such a high level.” Ms. Gaura continued, “I am excited for Karen to get started and get to meet our residents as we begin to plan for the Turkey Trot and our programming events for 2022.”
Ms. Hawk will begin working with the Village on November 1, 2021.
