Lincolnwood Welcomes Amazon Fresh

The District 1860 development, located at the iconic former Purple Hotel site, recently announced that Amazon Fresh will be an anchor tenant for the development being overseen by Tucker Development. This is the culmination of a years-long process of coordination between Tucker Development and the Village of Lincolnwood to bring the vision for this site forward. The announcement was Rich Tucker of Tucker Development during the Village Board Meeting on July 20, where an Amendment to the District 1860 Planned Unit was approved along with a Second Amendment to the Redevelopment Agreement.

When asked about the news, Mayor Patel stated, “Thank you to Tucker Development and all of those involved that have worked on this project. I am pleased to announce that the Village will be the newest site for Amazon Fresh. This is the beginning of what we anticipate to be a long and fruitful partnership with one of the largest grocery retailers in America.” Mayor Patel continued, “We are excited to take this next step with Tucker Development and their District 1860 project. Within a few months, the transformation from a long-vacant eyesore to a vibrant mixed-use development will begin. I’m proud to have been part of the concept plans that started back in 2016 and will be honored to serve as Mayor for the groundbreaking and eventual ribbon-cutting of this great development.”

Upon completion, the 38,015 square foot grocery store will be the only full-service grocer in the Village of Lincolnwood. Construction of the proposed development is anticipated to begin this fall.

Tucker Development also announced that First Hospitality Group, the entity responsible for developing a hotel for the site, will be unable to move forward as originally envisioned on the site. This was in large part due to the financial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Village is working with Tucker to ensure that the site is fully utilized to the benefit of the community.

In addition to the grocery store, Tucker previously announced Fatpour Tap Works, part of the Big Onion Hospitality Group, and Fat Rosie’s Taco & Tequila Bar, the latest outlet of the well-known Francesca’s Restaurant Group as tenants. The Village and Tucker Development are excited that these regionally known brands will be opening their doors in Lincolnwood.

When asked for comment, Village Manager Anne Marie Gaura said, “The Village is excited for Amazon Fresh to join the District 1860 development and this vibrant community. This unique grocery store will serve as a regional destination for this new grocery store concept.”

As more tenants are announced for the project, that information will be shared with the permission of the Developer.

The status of the development will be provided through the Village’s various social media platforms and website. For up-to-date information, please visit the Village’s website at
