New Parks and Recreation Director Named

Melissa Rimdzius has been promoted to the position of Parks and Recreation Director for the Village of Lincolnwood. Melissa’s first official day serving as the Director was Thursday, September 19, 2019.

Melissa brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the position. She has been a member of the Village staff since 2014 and most recently served as the Village’s Superintendent of Parks and Recreation. Her other roles in the Village have included Superintendent of Parks and Facilities and Community Center Program Supervisor. Melissa has coordinated a variety of projects for the Village including the G.G. Rowell Park playground replacement, Central Park playground replacement, Aquatic Center filtration management system replacement, and the Proesel Park playground replacement.

Prior to her work in Lincolnwood, she served in a variety of other Parks and Recreation related positions including for the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District, Fox Valley Park District, and the Park District of Oak Park. Melissa is a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional, Certified Pool Operator, Certified Playground Safety Inspector, graduate of the National Recreation and Park Association Revenue Development and Management School, and graduate of the Illinois Park and Recreation Association Leadership Academy.

Village Manager Anne Marie Gaura had this to say about the promotion, “Over the past five years Melissa has approached her time in Lincolnwood with a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, strong leadership, and a knack for creative problem solving that made her the clear choice for the position.”

When asked about taking on the new position, Melissa had this to say, “I am grateful and honored to have the opportunity to serve our wonderful community as the Director of Parks and Recreation. I look forward to working with the team in this new capacity as we strive to continuously enhance Lincolnwood’s recreational opportunities with the support, input, and involvement of our community members.”
