Project Description: The Village will be installing raised beds to include perennial landscaping, irrigation, and brick edging. All of the medians on Lincoln Avenue from Kostner Avenue south to Devon Avenue are included in the project. Medians that do not currently have plantings would also be landscaped.
Estimated Construction Cost: $850,000
Funding Source: Village funds from the Devon/Lincoln TIF District and excess reserves that have been identified for capital projects.
Project Updates: Update: (August 23, 2017) – The median project is ongoing. The remaining work includes installation of pavers, landscaping and concrete flatwork.
Update (August 9, 2017)- The project is working from Devon and then north. Irrigation is nearly complete.
Update (July, 5 2017) – The contractor continues to pour concrete for the curbs for the medians. brick installation within the medians is anticipated to begin within the next two weeks.
Update (June 14, 2017) – The contractor has been working in the removal of existing material. Concrete and paver work is expected to occur in the next two weeks.
Update (June 6, 2017)– The contractor is currently removing existing asphalt. The next stage will include installation of new soil and brick pavers.
Update (June 1, 2017) – The Village’s contractor, Nettle Creek Nursery, has been working to perform the removal of the soil in the existing medians in preparation for the installation of a new, nutrient rich, soil mixture, as well the brick pavers.
Update (May 12, 2017) – The contractor has experienced some delay with obtaining the necessary permit from IDOT. Staff is working with the contractor and IDOT to expedite the process. Construction is expected to begin soon.
Update (April 18, 2017) – A construction notice was hand delivered to all of the residents and businesses on Lincoln Avenue between Devon and Kostner Avenues.
Update (March 21, 2017) – On March 7, 2017, the Village Board approved the award of a contract for the Lincoln Avenue Median Reconstruction Project to Nettle Creek Nursery of Morris, Illinois. Construction is expected to begin in April.
Update (October 7, 2016) – Bids for the Lincoln Avenue Median Reconstruction Project came in approximately $300,000 over budget. On October 5, 2016, the Village Board decided to reject all of the submitted bids and rebid the project over the winter. Before the project is rebid, staff will work with the designing engineers to refine the project in an effort to reduce cost.
Update (April 1, 2016) – The Village’s engineering firm, Christopher B. Burke Engineering Ltd. (CBBEL), is working to complete the design of the improvements.
