Refuse, Recycling & Yard Waste
The Village currently has a contract with Groot for all garbage and recycling needs. One toter per household for garbage and recycling is provided to each property. Residents may also place an unlimited number of 35-gallon garbage cans at the curb each week. In addition, one bulk item, examples being mattress, refrigerator, and so on. Per week is permitted to be placed by the curb. Groot picks up garbage and recycling on Monday of every week. Missed pickups and other problems must be reported by noon on the Tuesday following the Monday pick-up.
Groot has published a recycling guide that provides information on what items can and cannot be recycled. The guide may be found here. Additionally, the Village is a member of the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC). SWANCC is comprised of several communities in the northern region of Cook County that work in concert to provide waste and recycling collection services. SWANCC provides a host of resources for member communities with information available at their website. SWANCC also operates a Reuse and Recycling Directory which provides a directory of outlets to dispose of items that are no longer needed. View The Reuse and Recycling Directory.
