At-Home Collection for Household Chemicals
New Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) At-Home Collection Program
Lincolnwood residents now have access to a convenient at-home collection program for Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) through the Village's partnership with the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) and Clean Harbors. This program makes it easy and safe to properly dispose of items such as chemicals, solvents, and other hazardous materials without leaving your home.
How It Works
- No enrollment needed – Lincolnwood is opted in to this program with SWANCC.
- Collection Dates – 2026 Collection Dates: 2/11, 4/15, 6/10, 8/12, 10/14, 12/16.
- Registration – Residents must register for an appointment and pay their $81 share of the fee at least two weeks in advance of the collection date. (This is a 50/50 program; you pay $81, and the Village is also billed for $81.) This ensures there is enough time for the collection bag and detailed instructions to be delivered to you. Payment is only accepted over the phone to Clean Harbors. 866-466-5060
- Neighbors Can Share Costs – Residents are encouraged to work together. Two or more households may share the same collection and split the $81 cost, making the program even more affordable.
Get Started
- Collect your unwanted household chemicals (cleaners, fluids, pesticides, pool chemicals bulbs, batteries, oil-based paints)
- Talk to your neighbors
- Call Clean Harbors 866-466-5060
Tips for Scheduling your Pick-Up
- Make a list of the chemicals you need picked up, including the name and number of containers.
- Make sure your material weighs less than 70 pounds; if you have more than 70 pounds of material at the time of pickup, the excess will be left behind, and you will need another appointment.
- Be prepared to pay the $81 pick-up fee by credit or debit card. You MUST call Clean Harbors to make payment or your appointment will NOT be scheduled.
- Clean Harbors will send you a collection bag to package your items before your pickup day, along with special instructions for your set-out.
This program provides a safe, environmentally friendly way to dispose of household hazardous waste while protecting our community and natural resources.
