Snow Plowing

Alternate Side Parking

When two inches or more of snowfall has accumulated, residents must follow alternate side street parking regulations:

  • Even-numbered calendar days (M–F, 8:30 AM–3:30 PM):
Park on the side of the street with even-numbered addresses.
  • Odd-numbered calendar days (M–F, 8:30 AM–3:30 PM):
Park on the side with odd-numbered addresses.

Additional notes:

  • Alternate side parking is not in effect on weekends or major holidays.
  • Pratt Avenue is a designated snow emergency route after 2 inches of snowfall, no parking is permitted.
  • Proper parking compliance allows plows to reach curb lines and keep roads safe for emergency vehicles.

Snow and Ice Removal Program

The Village of Lincolnwood is responsible for 75 lane miles of roads to plow during inclement weather. To efficiently manage this operation, the snow removal plan divides the community into different sections. The goal of the Village's snow removal plan is to have all of the Village-owned streets cleared within eight hours of a four to six-inch snowfall event.

Types of Winter Weather Responses

Not every winter event requires full plowing. The type of response depends on pavement conditions, precipitation type, timing, and forecast:

  • Brining (Pretreatment): Applied before a storm, when conditions allow, to help prevent snow and ice from bonding to pavement. This improves plow efficiency and reduces salt usage.
  • Salting: Used during light snow, freezing drizzle, or icy conditions. Salt operations may occur even when no plowing is necessary.
  • Plowing: Performed when snow accumulation requires mechanical removal. Crews make multiple passes to widen lanes as snowfall continues.
  • Combined Plow & Salt Operations: Activated during heavier storms where both clearing and deicing are needed to maintain safe travel conditions.

Important Note About State & County Roads

Certain major roads in Lincolnwood appear on the tracking map but are not maintained by the Village. The Village cannot plow, salt, or treat these roads.

How You Can Help

  • Follow alternate side parking regulations during snow events.
  • Keep garbage and recycling carts on the parkway or driveway apron, not in the street.
  • Avoid placing snow from driveways or sidewalks back into the roadway.
  • Give plows plenty of space; never attempt to pass a plow truck.
  • Clear sidewalks adjacent to your property as soon as conditions allow.
