Public Works Parkway Tree Planting Request

  1. Parkway Tree Planting

The Village of Lincolnwood’s Parkway Tree Planting Program helps maintain and enhance the community’s urban forest by planting new trees where space allows. Parkway trees are Village-owned and maintained and provide important environmental, aesthetic, and public safety benefits. While Public Works makes the final determination on tree placement to ensure long-term tree health, infrastructure protection, and safety, staff make every effort to consider resident requests and preferences whenever feasible.

For Spring 2026, only submissions received by January 30 with be prioritized, with the first 100 responses anticipated to be guaranteed a tree.

    How Tree Locations Are Selected

Tree locations are evaluated by Public Works staff to balance resident preferences with safety, infrastructure protection, and long-term tree growth. In general:

    • Trees are spaced to avoid conflicts with driveways, intersections, streetlights, fire hydrants, and utility infrastructure.

    • Trees are typically planted along the centerline of the parkway, unless site conditions warrant an alternate location.

    • Parkway width, underground utilities, and proximity to sidewalks, curbs, and gutters are considered to prevent future damage.

    • Small-growing tree species are selected for areas beneath overhead power lines, and crown form is considered when trees are planted near utilities.

    • Final placement and species selection are determined by Public Works to ensure safe, sustainable, and appropriate planting within the Village right-of-way.

  5. Public Works staff will be in contact with you to provide options for the types of trees available. Please ensure there are no typos in your phone number or email address.  Tree species vary from year to year.  The Village is working to diversify our urban forest and will not be planting any maple trees during the 2026 or 2027 planting seasons.

  6. Tree Care Disclaimer

By requesting a parkway tree, you are taking an important step in supporting Lincolnwood’s urban forest and the long-term health of the Village’s tree canopy. Parkway trees are Village-owned and maintained by the Public Works Department.

To ensure proper care and safety, only Public Works is permitted to trim or remove parkway trees. Trimming by homeowners or private landscapers is not allowed and may result in code enforcement action or fines.

The Village prunes parkway trees on a six-year trimming cycle, as trees do not require annual pruning to remain healthy. However, if you notice that your newly planted parkway tree is not thriving, such as drooping leaves, lack of leaf growth, or other signs of stress, please contact Public Works so staff can evaluate the tree.

Newly planted parkway trees are covered by a one-year warranty, and early reporting helps ensure issues can be addressed promptly.

  7. Yes, I want a tree. *

By submitting this form, I am requesting the planting of a new parkway tree within the Village right-of-way in front of my property. I understand that submitting this request indicates my consent to receive a parkway tree and that planting may occur at a later date based on program scheduling.

I acknowledge that tree species and placement are determined by the Village and that specific tree requests or preferences cannot be guaranteed. I agree to make a good-faith effort to care for the tree after planting, including regular watering during the establishment period.

  8. I would like to receive the Village's E-Newletters

The Village of Lincolnwood provides biweekly digital newsletters to keep residents up-to-date on the latest programs, activities, and initiatives within the community. Throughout the Spring and Summer months, we send a weekly newsletter to ensure residents stay informed about ongoing construction projects and developments within the Village.
