Stormwater Program

The Village has contracted with Engineering Resource Associates (ERA) for the completion of a Stormwater Master Plan Update. ERA completed a stormwater model update and calibration for the Village sewer system to reflect the updates to the system from the Street Storage Program and the North Shore Outfall Sewer. ERA’s modeling uses Bulletin 75 to accurately model the system with new rainfall data. Bulletin 75 data has reduced the Village’s level of protection for a 10-year storm. ERA will provide the Village with a comprehensive modeling report along with several potential projects that can be implemented to achieve a 10-year level of protection.

Street Storage

The street storage program is intended to detain water within the public right-of-way, including the street, and in some locations, the parkway. In addition, the project will include the installation of submerged restrictors within the catch basins to limit the flow of water into the existing sewer system, thereby reducing the possibility of basement backups. The system is designed to have the streets cleared of stormwater within two hours after the completion of a rain event that is identified as a 10-year level of severity. During lower intensity storms the streets would be clear in less than two hours. The program was completed in three phases with the first phase starting in 2016 and the third phase finalizing in 2024.

North Shore Outfall Sewer

A storm sewer was installed along North Shore Avenue that starts at Drake Avenue and is discharged into the North Shore Channel. The storm sewer varies from 42 to 60 inches in diameter. The project was completed in 2020 by DiMeo Brothers Inc. This separated storm system provides immediate relief to the southeastern homes in the Village.
