Overnight Parking
The Village Board continuously reviews the Village’s rules and regulations to ensure they meet the everchanging needs of our community. In late 2025, the Village Board discussed the potential for restricting overnight parking to vehicles registered in the Village of Lincolnwood. Before any decisions about potentially restricting overnight parking throughout the Village are made, we want to hear from you. Learn more and share your input below!
Purpose
Regularly, vehicles registered outside of Lincolnwood are parked on Village streets overnight. Often these non-resident vehicles are found to be in violation of State registration requirements and do not comply with local parking regulations relative to street sweeping and snow management operations. Overnight parking restrictions are somewhat common in Chicagoland suburbs for a variety of reasons.
Restricting overnight parking to Lincolnwood residents could potentially improve availability of on-street parking, minimize crime, improve snow removal operations, and assist with general infrastructure management on Village roadways. In addition, restrictions would help to address issues related to households that have an excessive number of vehicles parking on public roadways and out of town vehicles parking in Lincolnwood for long periods of time.

The Illinois Municipal Code, 65 ILCS 5/11-80-2a, expressly allows any municipality to impose residential zone parking which may include time limits, permit requirements or other restrictions within residential zones. Restrictions should have data to support an ordinance if challenged.
Overnight Parking Restrictions in Area Communities
Municipalities that prohibit overnight parking with varying hours have limited exceptions for guests or residents, such as a vehicle in need of a repair, overnight stays by guests or relatives, and construction to the residence or driveway.
